Photonic Components for Quantum Processors

For the cooling and control of ions in an ion trap quantum processor, lasers with a very narrow linewidth are necessary. Today, these lasers are still located in laboratories on optical tables next to the ion traps. The QVLS-iLabs project Q-PIC aims to change this situation. Compact laser diodes based on GaN technology are being developed. In addition to compactness, particular emphasis is placed on the stability and linewidth of the lasers, as quantum technologies place extremely high demands in this regard.

This project has been successfully completed.
