KOFREF
Compact Frequency Reference
One of the future scenarios of QVLS-iLabs is the development of commercial atom interferometers. These are quantum sensors that promise unprecedented accuracy for measuring, for example, the rotation or acceleration of objects. These measurement values are necessary for navigation on land, on water and in the air.
The measurement principle of an atom interferometer is based on the interference of atoms through laser interaction along different spatial paths. This laser interaction is controlled by precise radio frequencies and microwave frequencies. This is where the QVLS-iLabs project KOFREF comes into play: an accurate atom interferometer requires a precise reference frequency for controlling the laser interaction. The goal of KOFREF is the development of a long-term stable frequency reference for quantum sensors, whose frequency transfer via global navigation satellite systems also works in mobile scenarios.
